Smorgasboarder is the trading name of the magazine of the same name, operated by our parent company Huge C Media Pty Ltd, located at:

What information we collect
We may collect personal information including your name, email address, phone number, and mailing address, when you:
- Make a general enquiry
- Purchase merchandise or a subscription through our online shop
- Sign up to our newsletter
- Submit photos for publication consideration
- Enter a competition
We also collect standard internet log information and browsing behaviour automatically via cookies and tracking technologies (see “Cookies and tracking” below).
Newsletter sign-up and date of birth
When you sign up to our newsletter, we ask for your date of birth. This is used to send you occasional birthday promotions, and is stored in our email marketing platform, Mailchimp.
Shop, subscriptions and payments
Our online shop is powered by WooCommerce. When you purchase a subscription or merchandise, we collect your name, shipping address, email, and order details in order to fulfil and manage your order. We work with Australia Post to deliver physical orders, and your shipping details are shared with them for that purpose.
Payment is processed securely by Stripe. We do not collect or store your credit card details — these are handled directly by Stripe in accordance with their own privacy policy, available at stripe.com/privacy.
Reader photo submissions
When you submit photos through our Reader Photo Submissions form, we collect your name, email, social media handle, and mailing address, along with the photos themselves. This information is used to credit you, contact you about your submission, and where applicable, send you a print copy.
Submitted photos and associated contact details are stored securely in a Smorgasboarder team Dropbox account, accessible only to our magazine editors. This information is retained only as long as necessary for editorial consideration. Use of submitted photos is governed separately by our Image Use Agreement, presented at the time of submission.
Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies on our website, including:
- Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site, including pages viewed, time on site, and general location/device information. Google may use this data in accordance with their own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel: we use the Meta Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising and to show relevant ads to visitors on Facebook and Instagram. We maintain one or more email lists via Mailchimp to keep subscribers informed about news and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us directly. We do not sell, rent, loan, trade, or lease our subscriber list to anyone, and we do not allow anyone else to use our list server software.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share limited information with trusted third parties who help us operate our business, including:
- Stripe (payment processing)
- Google (website analytics, as described above)
- Meta (advertising, as described above)
- Australia Post (delivery of physical orders)
- Mailchimp (newsletter and email communications)
Some of these providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to be handled in accordance with this policy.
How long we keep your information
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose it was collected for, or as required by law. Specifically:
- General enquiries and contact form submissions are retained for 2 years.
- Reader photo submissions and associated details are retained only as long as necessary for editorial consideration.
- Newsletter details are retained in Mailchimp for as long as you remain subscribed.
- Order and subscription mailing details are retained in WooCommerce as needed to manage your order or subscription.
Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.
Your rights and how to complain
